What's the difference between a CPA and an Accountant?

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a designation given by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) to individuals that pass the Uniform CPA Examination and meet education and experience requirements.  Additionally, CPAs are required to attend 40 hours of continuing education annually to maintain licensure.  An Accountant is unlicensed and does not have the education and experience required of a CPA!
